Abstract:

Today, quality improvement and cost reduction are key factors for achieving business success, growth and position. One of the primary tools for quality improvement and cost reduction in online activities of statistical process control is control charts. As the need for monitoring several correlated quality characteristics is extensively growing, the use of multivariate control charts becomes more popular. Among these, the control chart is the most popular due to many advantages. In this paper, the variable sampling scheme is studied to increase the power of the fixed sampling rate ( ) control chart to show small shifts. In this study, one of the parameters of control chart, e.g., the sample size, vary between three values, depending on the most recent value. The design of control chart with three variable sample sizes ( 3 ) from the statistical and economic perspective has been investigated, when the shift in the process mean does not occur at the beginning but at some random time in the future. Therefore, the Markov Chain approach used to develop the cost function. Then, the genetic algorithm ( GA ) is applied to search for the optimal values of the parameters of the 3 control chart. Finally, numerical comparisons among and 3 schemes are made and discussed. Keywords: Multivariate T 2 Control Chart with Three Variable Sample Sizes (3VSS), Small Shifts, Markov Chain, Genetic Algorithm.

Economic-statistical Design of NP Control Chart with Variable Sample Size and Sampling Interval

The control charts are graphical tools and proven techniques to improve the performance of a process. Usually, the processes are not naturally controlled, so the use of control charts will help to reduce the variability and increase the stability of the process. In the traditional approach, control charts with fix sample size and constant sampling intervals were used to identify the changes in ...

Economic- Statistical design of T2 control chart with the VSSC scheme

T2 control charts are used to monitor a process when more than one quality variable associated with process is being observed. Recent studies have shown that using variable sample size (VSS) schemes result in charts with more statistical power when detecting small to moderate shifts in the process mean vector. This paper presents an economic- statistical design of T2 control charts with variabl...

Robust Economic-Statistical Design of Acceptance Control Chart

Acceptance control charts (ACC), as an effective tool for monitoring highly capable processes, establish control limits based on specification limits when the fluctuation of the process mean is permitted or inevitable. For designing these charts by minimizing economic costs subject to statistical constraints, an economic-statistical model is developed in this paper. However, the parameters of s...

Economic Statistical Design of a Three-Level Control Chart with VSI Scheme

Traditionally, the statistical quality control techniques utilize either an attributes or variables product quality measure. Recently, some methods such as three-level control chart have been developed for monitoring multi attribute processes. Control chart usually has three design parameters: the sample size (n), the sampling interval (h) and the control limit coefficient (k).The design parame...

Economic-Statistical Design of Acceptance Control Chart

Acceptance control charts are effective tools tomonitor capable processes in which the fraction of the produced nonconforming items is very low. In these charts, some controlled changes in the process mean are allowed, and the production of a specified number of defectives is tolerated. Designing these acceptance control charts by considering the cost of sampling, detecting, and investigating o...

Economic Design of T2 −V SSC Chart Using Genetic Algorithms

The principal function of a control chart is to help management distinguish different sources of variation in a process. Control charts are widely used as a graphical tool to monitor a process in order to improve the quality of the product. Chen and Hsieh (2007) have designed a T2 control chart using a Variable Sampling Size and Control limits (V SSC) scheme. They have shown that using the V SSC...
